NHS Dental Treatment...

NHS Dental Charges

There are three NHS charge bands:

  • Band 1: £25.80 covers an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays, a scale and polish and planning for further treatment.
  • Band 2: £70.70 covers all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).
  • Band 3: £306.80 covers all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

The NHS will not provide treatments such as teeth whitening or cosmetic treatment, which you may want to make your teeth more attractive but which are not clinically necessary.

Emergency or Urgent Treatment

If you require urgent care, you will need to pay £25.80. Most urgent treatments can be done in one appointment, but sometimes you may need to come back for further treatment. In this case, the relevant Band charge will apply.

If you have a dental emergency please call the practice on 01403 251 015.

Personal Dental Treatment Plan

Your dentist should give you a personal Treatment Plan if you require a Band 2 or 3 treatment. The plan provides details of the treatment and the amount you will have to pay. You will be asked to read and sign the Treatment Plan.

If you have discussed having Private treatment with your dentist, the details and costs of this treatment will be listed separately on your Treatment Plan.

Paying for Treatment

You will be asked to pay a portion or the full amount of any treatment plan before your appointment is booked. This will help to secure your appointment as the practice can get very busy.
